Sketchbook Vine Charcoal Graphite Drawing#6 - Young Woman

Hi everyone, I've been hanging out in the Portraiture forum at WetCanvas  the last couple days, and came across one of their Challenges, this sketch is a result from one of their references. I just couldn't resist those eyes, they just drew me in.
Sorry, it's not a great photo, will get a better one, and still not finished with this study as yet, but wanted to post it, and see where it needs some work.
I've got some more poses of her I'm going to do.
This took about 45 min, quick go at her in my Sketchbook used mostly graphite and some Vine charcoal so far, about 9x12inches. I'm quite pleased with her. I just love that look in her eyes!!!!

Wednesday

"IRIS" IN BLUE

Good Day everyone!!  Another beautiful day here, Sun shining, slight breeze, will be in the mid 80's later. What more can you ask for.  I'm adding another painting I finished for another monthly Challenge on WetCanvas..  This month the host wanted any kind of  Blue flowers.  This is a beautiful bearded Iris, that I loved to grow when I had a backyard.  Every year this particular plant would dazzle me with this display of these beautiful blooms.  The blooms were not suppose to be so blue, but this one liked to show her display on her own, and every year her blooms reigned over the others. So in tribute to that lovely lady who danced with the wind. I painted one of her girls.........this is one of my "Petite Pearls" Series showcasing smaller paintings. Hope you enjoy!!!
Painted with Acrylics on Gallery Canvas, 8x10 inches

Saturday

Anemone Flower Challenge

Such a wonderful summer day today, I was in the studio this morning doing a painting for an Artists Challenge. online, and thought you guys might like to see what I was up to.  We were suppose to use a medium we've never used before, no more than an hour, with some ink included if we wanted, and no pre drawing.  I used Watercolors  with some Ink outlines. Took about an hour . Just a small study, 5x7inch,  painted first, then outlined. I found watercolors a good challenge, after Acrylics and Oils.  Will have to do some more quick studies to get a better feel for them.. Keeta my cat lounged on my table in the sun while I experimented..At least he kept his paws to himself today, he often likes to give me a hand.  LOL

Monday

This was done yesterday for a monthly event at WetCanvas  in the Florals Forum. You can see it there if you like.  It was done on gallery wrapped canvas using Golden full body Acrylics limited palette.I like to get up close and personal with my flowers, and just loved colors in these when I brought them home!!

News April 1st 2010

Wow, three months into the year already!! The birds have flown away with my time!!
Different things going on with me......

First off,........Two weeks ago I was the Host for a "Weekend Drawing and Painting Event" (called a WDE) at  WetCanvas  the largest International Artists Forum owned by F&W Publications. Here's the Invitation

This event starts on the weekend and runs till the next Friday the Host publishes some references, and Artists from all over the world from all types of media, produce paintings etc. from these.   Image Thread  Then they publish them for all to see and comment on during that week. It's amazing to see how each artists' painting is so unique, and the wonderful camaraderie that is established through the participation of the event. My goal as the Host, was to keep the artists interacting with each other, and the event rolling along. It was such a great honor to do this, for me. I also Hosted one back in November 2009.

I will also be Hosting an Event in the Florals Forum of WetCanvas during the Month of  May this year.
Will update with more information as we get closer to  the end of the month.  This will cover all kinds of Flora  including Botanical.  It's open to all Artists and Mediums..

Also on a Personal note.  I received an Invitation to a Wedding from my Niece Megan and her Fiance Stephan. I'm so happy for them, and thrilled they are going to tie the knot.  I'm going to get a great holiday out of it as it's to be held at a vacation resort in the Okanogan , the May long weekend..
I've been shopping  already, you know how women are LOL.

I have no Paintings to post today, so thought I would post a recent photo of my guy...... Keeta.   My shadow, my studio mascot, and artist.....loves paint, loves to try play with paint. LOL

2010 Winter Olympics Montage - Stephen Brunt Video Essay

Wanted to share this wonderful video done for CTV by a great Toronto Globe and Mail columnist Stephan Brunt. I think he's really done a fantastic job of showing what the Olympics meant to Canada. I've always been a proud Canadian, but today I'm just bursting with "PRIDE". Way to Go Canada !!!!

January 2010

New decade started, and some new goals for the coming year, as I know a lot of you make this time of year too. My biggest one is to be much more productive with my art this year. Last year was taken up with a lot of learning, and experiments with mediums and paints, and most of my work was studies done for future paintings..
So the first thing is my new Header up above.  It's a photo from one of the Expert runs up at Cypress Bowl in Vancouver, B.C.  The Olympics are being held in Vancouver in less than a month now, and this ski area is going to be used for some of the games.  So you may be seeing this view on TV in the future.  The view is facing West into Howe Sound with some of the Islands. Some fantastic panoramas to see there, so I thought I would show you from one of the runs I use to Ski.
I'm working on three new paintings right now, all extra large size, will be posting them as I get them finished.  Also some smaller ones on the way.
