Sweetheart Roses

Acrylic 4"x6" on Canvas

Loved the colors of these Roses, just the kind to bring big smiles from most women. This is Day 16 in the 30 in 30 Challenge half way through the month.  This painting was done very quickly, wanted to make the deadline. It's more or less a study for a larger painting. It will be part of my Petite Pearls collection.  Will look at it more tomorrow. Thanks for viewing.......

Delphiniums Summers Delight

I love Delphiniums. I wait every year for them to start blooming. This is a painting I did on impulse, painted quickly, without thinking about it too much. It's a study, for a larger format that I'd like to do.  Wanted to see what kind of composition might work for them..  Will have to think on it for a few days, or weeks .......LOL
I like to post so I can see what it looks like from a different perspective.

Magnolia Flower Heart

New Alla Prima Speed Painting
painted for a monthly challenge in the  Floral forum at WetCanvas..The beautiful Magnolia was the flower this month.  I choose a lovely macro shot from a  wonderful reference of a Flickr member nordique under a Creative Commons Attribution License..
This was done in 45 min start to finish with Watercolor Pencils on  9 x 12 Acrylic paper.
As before, no pre drawing, just worked with the pencils, which are new to me. too, so  it was a good challenge. Hardest part is to walk away, and leave it be.(Though I must say with watercolors, that are harder to fix things with, it is easier to do that....(smile)...)  Working this quick is such a rush of adrenalin, I'm really enjoying it. Wild Flower Wheel - A Little Corner in the Garden

Acrylic on 9x12 Water Color paper.
This is for a WDE (Weekend Drawing/Painting Event) at WetCanvas. Mary was our Host.

I was drawn to the different shapes objects and greens in this composition.
After laying in another layer of gesso, I blocked in the basic elements in the composition,
darkening the foreground, just laying  a good foundation. with thinned paint.
I then worked on the building layers and basic shapes, leaves, adding thicker paint as I proceeded.
At the end the flowers,  final touches and highlights were added thickly to give texture and dimension..

"IRIS" IN BLUE

Good Day everyone!!  Another beautiful day here, Sun shining,slight breeze, will be in the mid 80's later. What more can you ask for.  I'm adding another painting I finished for another monthly Challenge on WetCanvas..  This month the host wanted any kind of  Blue flowers.  This is a beautiful bearded Iris, that I loved to grow when I had a backyard.  Every year this particular plant would dazzle me with this display of these beautiful blooms.  The blooms were not suppose to be so blue, but this one liked to show her display on her own, and every year her blooms reigned over the others. So in tribute to that lovely lady who danced with the wind. I painted one of her girls.........this is one of my "Petite Pearls" Series showcasing smaller paintings. Hope you enjoy!!!

Anemone Flower Challenge

 Such a wonderful summer day today, I was in the studio this morning doing a painting for an Artists Challenge. online, and thought you guys might like to see what I was up to.  We were suppose to use a medium we've never used before, no more than an hour, with some ink included if we wanted, and no pre drawing.  I used Watercolors  with some Ink outlines. Took about an hour . Just a small study, 5x7inch,  painted first, then outlined. I found watercolors a good challenge, after Acrylics and Oils.  Will have to do some more quick studies to get a better feel for them.. Keeta my cat lounged on my table in the sun while I experimented..At least he kept his paws to himself today, he often likes to give me a hand.  LOL

Daffodils Springs Glory

This was done yesterday for a monthly event at WetCanvas  in the Florals Forum. You can see it there if you like.  It was done on gallery wrapped canvas using Golden full body Acrylics limited palette.I like to get up close and personal with my flowers, and just loved colors in these when I brought them home!!

Lady Slipper Orchid - Angel's Flight

Hot off the press.......I fell in love with this delicate beauty, and just had to get her on canvas.
Love the long tendrils, the exotic stripes and spots, and those colors, well that did it for me!!!

Hydrangea - Finished !!

Finished this today, and got it entered in the project on time!!
I'm actually quite pleased as to how it turned out. Have a couple more in mind, larger scale.
The background was an experiment for me, as I usually do a very dark one,
but wanted to play with the light and colors, hoping to give it a lovely airy flair.:)

Acrylics on 11x14in Canvas....no need to frame if you don't want to.

Hydrangea WIP (work in progress)

One of my favorite flowers, and much beloved by all. This delicate beauty, looks wonderful on the bush, and stands up as a lovely dried flower, in many vases over the years.
I wanted to get into the world inside this flower, one of the few that gives us a true blue color.
I consider this painting a study, for a much larger one I wish to do.
This one is for an artists monthly event at WetCanvas Florals forum.
Not quite finished, as I need to do my shadows, and highlights yet, and post it later today at WetCanvas. But wanted to see if there were any other fixes needed first, and they seem to show up better posted here...........

Rose .....almost finished

I've joined into a June project at WetCanvas -a wonderful artists forum I'm a member of- and we were to paint a rose and post it on the due date for all to see. I decided to do a hybrid tea rose and concentrate on the heart of it, the core of the rose. I've almost finished it, still some work left, with the outer petals and at least one more color glaze maybe two, to get to the color I want. But so far I'm quite pleased with it, and thought I'd post it here to see what it looks like.

Used Golden Full Body Acrylics on 16x20 gallery wrapped canvas.
I've carried the painting on to the sides, so no need to frame it unless one wants to.

Ocean Flowers - Seaweed

Here's a bit of whimsy, and some playing with different techniques in this new painting some colorful seaweed floating in the ocean....Ocean Flowers...... Used some Ink line work, some glazing, some splattering, and anything else I could think of to get this one done!! It was time to have some fun with paint. Used my fingers a lot too!!!
What do you think??? does it work???

Black Parrot Tulip WIP

Hi all.........another flower closeup on the go!! These happen to be one of my favorite flowers.
This is sort of a study in a smaller size of the composition and coloring for a very large painting I want to do.
Trying to get all the kinks out ahead of time with the study.
I started this over a year ago, and wasn't happy with it, so went on to other things.
Then a few weeks ago, cleaning my studio, I came across it. Now I want to finish it and get going on the big one.
I'm about three quarters there I think. Trying to decide on the background color. Also a lot of highlites and different lighter shades of color yet for the petals and the stamen.
I'm open to any suggestions, critiques and comments. Feedback on the background too!!

NB.....Those shiny spots on the photo, are from the paper buckling a bit. It was still a bit damp when I took the pic, it will flatten out.

''LILY'' Painting Finished

I showed a WIP (work in progress) of this last month. Finished it over a week ago, but was waiting for my daughter to take a decent photo of it, to post here. Must say, I'm very pleased with the outcome of this, and as I said earlier, I'm not usually a big yellow fan. But this one is different, and I didn't muddy the yellow, so mission accomplished. LOL

''LILY'' CloseUp

This is a "Work In Progress" - WIP - that I started in July of this beautiful Lily. I was not far from finished, and somehow got sidetracked onto some other things, and there on my work table it has sat, leaning against the wall ever since.

One of my goals this year is to get caught up on unfinished works, and to not leave new paintings unfinished...........so thought I would post this here, to gently prod me to meet my goals, and show you what I'm working on.

I must tell you, I've never been a big fan of yellow flowers, I never buy them, I don't grow them, and never thought I would paint them!!! However, this one appealed to me, in it's very soft, lovely coloring, and it is a Tiger Lily, and a beauty. Also yellow flowers are hard to paint.

When mixing colors with yellow they can turn to "Mud" very quickly...........so I liked the challange!!! Hey.......I'm an emotional painter (so I've learned) I have to have some kind of emotional attachment to something before I'll try paint it, be it an animal, a flower, or a view of a valley, somethings got to grab me, and hold my interest, or I'll go on to better things, and that happens very quickly for me!! So big surprise!!!!! I like this yellow flower, and now I'm going to finish painting it. ( We're a weird bunch.........Us Artists) LOL :)

So onto the flower. It's a yellow Tiger Lily, doing it with Acrylics on 16x20 gallery wrapped Canvas.

I've not done a contrasting underlayer, that I often do with flowers, basically because of the color.....I don't want mud. This has about 5 or 6 layers on it in different areas already.

Now I'm starting to build up the contrasts and shadows, with many different colors of yellow, and mixtures.

Also, please disregard that horizontal line near the middle of the picture. I had to use my scanner and sew 4 photos together to get the photo, and the scanner did not like the yellow, and I had a hard time getting a decent photo........No Camera. :)

This is going to look great when it's finished. Luv that light soft lemon color!!!
