This one was done trying out some textures and colors.  I like how it evolved.  

We are into day15 and I'm behind, but, will keep going and see where I get with these.  I'm hoping by day 30 that a daily painting will be  a snap for me.  :)

Portrait Of My Little Ballerina

Wonderful news, my painting has arrived.!!!
I'm so thrilled it's here. It's come all the way from San Salvador, an Island in the Bahamas.
It's a beautiful Pastel Portrait 16x20in of my Grand Daughter Julia 3yrs,. painted by a wonderful Artist and friend Li Newton. her website is   HERE..
She's a fantastic artist and photographer go have a look.
I was Host to a Weekend  Challenge at an Artist site called WetCanvas some weeks ago. One of the references I posted for the Artists was a photo taken by my daughter of Julia in her Tutu,  When I saw this painting that Li had done of her, I just had to have it, a birthday gift to myself .(big smile) Isn't it gorgeous LOL!!!

I love these canvases. They look so good when hung on the wall. 

This would look wonderful in a kitchen, the colors just pop, I love red can you tell, and this has all of my favoites in it..Including  a couple of Macintosh Apples....also my favorites, sweet and tart, yummy.

I think it's finished, will leave it for a few days and see if anything catches my eye.

So what do you think.??  Good enough to eat??  LOL

Wild Flower Wheel - A Little Corner in the Garden

Acrylic on 9x12 Water Color paper.
This is for a WDE (Weekend Drawing/Painting Event) at WetCanvas. Mary was our Host.

I was drawn to the different shapes objects and greens in this composition.
After laying in another layer of gesso, I blocked in the basic elements in the composition,
darkening the foreground, just laying  a good foundation. with thinned paint.
I then worked on the building layers and basic shapes, leaves, adding thicker paint as I proceeded.
At the end the flowers,  final touches and highlights were added thickly to give texture and dimension..

 Bit of an update today on yesterday's drawing.. Worked on her a bit more. Also zeroed in more with her features.  I like the crop better. Will let it go for a day or so and let it sit with me.Gives me a better perspective on my work.. What do you think...l !!!  (smile)

Hot off the press.......I fell in love with this delicate beauty, and just had to get her on canvas.
Love the long tendrils, the exotic stripes and spots, and those colors, well that did it for me!!!

Sketchbook Vine Charcoal Drawing #5 - Young Woman

Still working on doing some drawings every day if possible, to improve my skills.
This one was done tonight while watching a movie "Catwoman" ......I had never seen it before..... with Halle Berry, Sharon Stone.
Wow Halle is one incredible beautiful woman, I may, just have to try draw her sometime, and her figure is to die for!!!!
I really enjoyed the movie, and in the end had this drawing done. I did not work too hard on it, but going to post it as I don't want to nit pick on a study.
I find I'm working with the charcoals much faster, and more efficient, so that's good, also getting a good likeness a lot better, and faster. So I'm pleased.

Vine Charcoal Drawing "Jack Big Plume" Native American Sarcee Tribe

Hi there, here's a new piece I did this past weekend, entered a drawing and painting event and Jack was a reference. Just had to have a go at him. Such a fabulous face to work with.
I don't use my charcoals that much and really enjoy them and need to do more portraits, so pulled out the willow vine charcoal and this is the result.
We have a two hour limit and then are to show our works finished or not at that time....I was pleased to have him done.
I'll probably see something that needs a touch up after a couple days or so,
but here he is.
Size is about 12 x 16 inches

Sorry guys, I've been off line.......my computer's been down.
Had to get a new motherboard!! And a second hand one at that, as they are not making them for mine anymore...5 years old... Old for computers I guess.

Oh, and I got a warranty too......for a whole one month!!! You've got to laugh when they tell you that with a straight face. I finally realized he was serious, and thought that was a
good deal......one month......hello!!!! where did good workmanship and standing by a product go to???

We're being robbed, do you know that, well I'm finally admitting it, and it stinks. Remember that song.............. "We're not going to take it, We're not going to take it, We're not going to take it ........ANYMORE!!!!!! We need to all stand on our roof tops and yell those words out!!!!!

No wonder everything is messed up, we've lost our pride and esteem in our products and industries. We now get one month warranties.!!!

Hello.... Lets Make Some Positive Changes. If each and every one of us were to say, or do just one thing to get these changes, it will help. Think about it...........

Sketchbook Drawing #4-Young Woman

Another hot off the press. Quick study, I seem to be on a roll here, just want to do faces it seems.
All these are just impulsive. No pre thought to draw them. I just get an impulse when I see a image, or something, and grab a pen or pencil and some paper. I tend to like to use a pen, as then it hinders me from being able to erase. Still playing that game with myself. I've done quite a few more since the last posting, but I'm going to post this one from last night as I quite like her look and she was done very quickly and no real hitches. Still very rough drawings, I'm a messy artist. But this one is a lot cleaner than most of them LOL.
This is done with pen on 8.5 X 11 paper........

Have some paintings on the way.......you must be getting bored with these sketches by now!!!

Sketchbook Vine Charcoal Drawing #3-Young Girl

Quick Study Sketch very rough, I played with last night. It's from a young girl riding on a merry go round, her hair flying. I centered it on her face, as I wanted to capture the movement, and her joy!!
May do a painting from this. I used charcoal and graphite, played around with some added markings and shading to give it a more abstract look. Not sure if I'm done yet, will have to look at it for a while. About 9 x 12in..... What do you think??

Cows Play Of Color II "Mom and Calf"

Here's the second one in this Play Of Color series on "Cows"

Another WIP (work in progress) worked on this this week with the first one.
Finally remembered to get a photo of the first color stage .
The last photo shows it's almost finished.
Still some more work on the calf, and some last layer of colors. One more session and it should be finished.

This is larger 16x20 on gallery wrap canvas, working my way up.
My next one is going to be a lot larger than this.
Would love you feedback on these. Different style for me. What do you think??

I'm using a limited palette here, finding my background color, and the basic color tones.

First color layed in, and then sketched in the compostion of the cows over top, pretty rough, just a few lines to follow

Faces - Puzzels of Our Past

Finished this today. It was done for an Self Portrait Challenge for 2008 on the Acrylics forum at WetCanvas. Today was the first day we could post them.
It ended up very different than I originally thought what I might do, and somehow I ended up with two figures. One of me from about 25 years ago and one of me now.
Very gut wrenching for most artists to paint themselves, and most don't do it very often.
I had wanted to try this technique, and thought the portraits suited it. This is done with Golden Fluid Acrylics on gallery wrapped canvas.
Not sure if I'm totally finished yet, will hang it and think on it for a few days. I have to do that will all my paintings. Then I'll varnish it and it will be done. I've already got a couple more in mind for a series I think.
What are you thoughts on this painting!!!
