Ocean Flowers - Seaweed

Acrylics 12x12 2in Box gallery wrapped Canvas

Here's a bit of whimsy, and some playing with different techniques in this new painting some colorful seaweed floating in the ocean....Ocean Flowers...... Used some Ink line work, some glazing, some splattering, and anything else I could think of to get this one done!! It was time to have some fun with paint. Used my fingers a lot too!!!
What do you think??? does it work???

Monday

Orchids Galore

Hope everyone had a great holiday season.........Here comes 2008.........!!!!
Just off the easel a semi abstract of some lovely orchids done with acrylics on gallery wrapped canvas. This was fun to do, with limited palette, no pre drawing just paint. Hope you like it.

Friday

ROSES FOR MY LADY

More playing around with my acrylics.
Just trying to see how far you can go with them.
This was done very wet on wet washes, a lot more than the Poseys.
After the first few washes of different colors, I looked to see what jumped out at me in regards to shapes, and I saw cabbage type roses, so after it dried I went back in and softly tried to emphasize the shapes a bit more of the roses and leaves. I liked the soft look, will have to play with them more.
I tried this with Acrylic instead of watercolor, because when acrylics dry and then you add another color or water on top, the color below does not wash away, as watercolor does ( so I was told) so wanted to try it myself. More practise needed, but lots of potential, for backgrounds etc. Think this one was too wet. But here's one of the smaller sheets that I did.
This one is about 9 X 9 on Watercolor paper

Thursday

LUSCIOUS

This is a WIP (Work In Progress) started this last night just working on some ideas for larger paintings, and trying different techniques, basically playing with my paints. Oh what fun, nothing like doing something you love to do.

This still has some work left to do, but posted it so I can have a better look at it really. Gives you a better way to view your work. There is some light background work done, but it's not showing up here. I can see right away some areas that need some pizzaz. Too tired to keep going, will finish later.

Update........Jun4/07...did a few more touches to this. I'm finished with this one now. My daughter loves it so going to give it to her!!

Monday

ME, MYSELF AND "I"

Ok, here it is, finished it on the weekend!
Found it hard to try paint myself, have trouble doing family too!! Would rather paint strangers.......hmmmmm must be some "Freud" thing about that one. Well its done, and I'm posting it.
There was a challenge on at WetCanvas in the Acrylics Forum. To post a SelfPortrait. by the end of the month. That's what this was for. This is my first of me in Acrylics, on Gallery wrapped Canvas. What do you think?

Sunday

SPRINGS GLORY

Look what nature has brought us!!!!!
From my archives, some Color for our Lives.
My favorite time of the year.........

Friday

Wine Bottles "Reflections"

More Glazing Done

Starting to add Glazes

Colors blocked in doing values with underlayer

This painting comes from some homemade Wine and Liquer Bottles for sale in Quebec City. Our WDE host had been visiting for the weekend, and snapped a shot of the colorful bottles in a Shop. Thankyou Sundiver! The Bottle on the right, was on an angle and I like that, so I put it in the painting. Worked hard to keep the light and reflections as real glass has, in this painting. The background does not show up well on the computer, and was hard to show the glow and reflections. Looks wonderful In Real Life (IRL computer talk). Acrylic on Canvas.. I took some scans of the WIP. so will show you.

Thursday

NUDE BODY SHAPES LINES CONTRASTS

My first experiment with the female form. I quite liked the liberty I felt when painting her.....So her title. She's 20 X 16 acrylic on canvas. Now working on some more, larger format, and some drawings in charcoal and conte pencil . Too large for my scanner, will post when I get my new camera.

More nude body shapes lines on site......just click "nude" or"body" or "lines" from the Labels, and a list will come up.........

Saturday

Tulips "SPRING JEWELS"

It's that wonderful time of the year again. Time for some Color.....Look what nature has brought us..........
I loved painting this! I imagined myself as a small mouse or rabbit looking up thru the flowers. It's a "happy painting". Acrylic on Canvas
